Question by Powell: How much is BP paying for compensation for the spill? How much did the cleanup and relief efforts cost?
Also, is BP going to go Bankrupt and close down? BP is from Britain, correct?

Best answer:

Answer by Steve D
The cleanup is ongoing and a final total has not been determined. Estimates for the cost range from $ 30 billion to $ 100 billion. No BP will not go bankrupt. During the first quarter of 2010, BP made $ 5.5 billion in profits. In 2009, BP’s profits were $ 14.4 billion. For the second quarter of 2010 BP today reported a $ 17 billion loss…however, $ 32 billion of that was set aside earnings for the cleanup, meaning that, in essence, BP ran a $ 15 billion profit if you factor out the oil spill. Since the $ 32 billion probably covers a good part of the cleanup (the $ 100 billion estimates were most likely extremely high) and also factor in the expectation that BP may sell $ 30 billion worth of assets, they are probably going to be just fine.

Why is BP trying to get out of their responsibility of paying for the spill?

Question by The Beckster: Why is BP trying to get out of their responsibility of paying for the spill?
They want to limit their damage to 75 million dollars, when it is clear that damage done is already in the tens of billions. The Republican Senators are backing them up too.

In other words, the Republican Senators wants your tax dollars to pay for the bulk of the spill. And then they will spin it as a bailout for BP. Watch closely the next few weeks, as the Republican Senators defends BP.

Q&A: How does BP selling some of its assets affect the company value?

Question by angelpie: How does BP selling some of its assets affect the company value?
News has come out that BP plans to sell $ 12 billion of its assets to the US’s biggest independent oil company, Apache. The day this was announced, the share prices increased quite a bit, does this make sense or was the increase caused by other factors?

I would like to know how BP selling all these assets off is good or bad for the company. Doesn’t it mean the value of the company has actually decreased (and therefore one would expect share prices to drop) ?

Who else out there is deliberately boycotting BP service stations and garages ?

Question by Victory is Mine: Who else out there is deliberately boycotting BP service stations and garages ?
I know of several people including myself who are boycotting BP in order to send a deliberate message to the company , the shareholders and the service station owners that they have a responsibility to fix the mess they have created in the US.

They seemingly want to be allowed to take the profit without taking the blame as well.

Would you get behind this initiative as well and boycott all BP outlets or are you doing it already?

Don’t even start me on their idiot CEO.

“They seemingly want to be allowed to take the profit without taking the blame as well.”

But they agreed to pay $ 20 billion. They are taking the blame, at least some of it.

How about getting BP to pay for the oil leak by lowering gasoline prices?

BP
by BP America

Question by : How about getting BP to pay for the oil leak by lowering gasoline prices?
BP could offset the oil leak costs and damages by lowering the price of gas to $ 1 a gallon at all of their pumps in this country (and still will make a profit) for the next three years or so. This will go a long way in rebuilding respect and good will. It will also help the middle class and the economy.
