Understanding the direction of the market as well as the economic activity will lead to profitable trades. Keep up with our live news feed with TraderMongers.com!

S&P 500

The S&P 500 index is currently trading between these natural support and resistance levels: 1050, 1075, and the 1100. We are also trading above the 200 day moving average on the 5 minute chart at 1073. Do not expect a break below the 1075 level on Friday due to the support levels provided by both the 144 and 200 day moving averages. The markets will most likely trade sideways going into Friday’s trading.

On Thursday the S&P 500 ended the trade just above the 1085 200 day moving average on the daily chart. Expect sideways trading as we push into Friday because we are still below the 144 day Fibonacci moving average of 1111. Until we break above this level do expect a confirmed rally or recovering especially throughout these low-volume trading summer months. We still believe that any positive news is considered a temporary rally as move into August which is considered the slowest trading month.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Market Volatility index (VIX) measures options activity within the market and is widely used tracking the S&P 500. A common trading strategy for traders and investors includes a VIX level of 30 or above means an immediate switch from equities to cash. Traders and investors are retreating from the markets and finding safety and protection within the Treasuries, gold, and the dollar.

As long as we stay above this level expect pessimism as we approach the slow summer months. Currently the VIX is above the 144 and 200 day moving averages on the daily chart. The volatility index is just above 30.00 as of today so traders and investors may rethink their short positions or continue retreat to safer assets.

However due to the low volume in the recent rally and liquidation of mutual fund investors due to frightening instances such as the ‘flash crash,’ European debt crisis and BP Oil Spill expect volatility will return and traders will prey and make money on both ends. Traders will buy when investors are fearful and sell when they are euphoric and confident.

Although Oil Spill is Slowed, Economic Damages are Still Being Calculated, Says Texas Attorney

Houston lawyer Jason Itkin

Houston, TX (PRWEB) July 23, 2010

The apparent capping of BP’s blown-out well that has been spilling oil into the Gulf of Mexico marks progress, Houston attorney Kurt Arnold said. But an accurate accounting of the spill’s long-term economic damage to commercial fishermen, shrimpers and coastal businesses must be performed, Arnold said.

“We all share a sense of relief that after three months, oil apparently is no longer spilling into the Gulf,” said Arnold, a partner with Arnold & Itkin LLP, a Houston law firm that represents individuals and business harmed by the oil spill. “Unfortunately, it will take much longer to assess the true economic damage of this environmental catastrophe. An accurate assessment of economic damages to Gulf residents and individuals must be made, and BP and other responsible parties must pay the tab.”

Pressure tests so far have offered encouraging signs that BP’s placement of a cap last week atop the well has effectively stemmed the flow of crude that was gushing at a rate of 35,000 to 60,000 barrels a day from the well. The federal government has been cautious about the results of the cap, but allowed the testing to continue day-to-day.

Jason Itkin, a partner with Arnold & Itkin LLP, said the final reckoning of the economic damages caused by the spill should make provision for future losses in the event that fish stocks don’t recover from BP’s oil spill in a short time, or tourists don’t come back to the coast because of the stigma of pollution.

“What if shrimpers and commercial fisherman are returning to the dock with empty nets in three to five years?” Itkin asked. “What if businesses that depend on tourists are still struggling then? That’s a real possibility that we need to address when awarding economic losses.”

Itkin noted that individuals and businesses harmed by the oil spill were eligible to receive compensation for economic damages in addition to temporary emergency payments to make ends meet. BP’s relief program is slated to expire after three years. Yet, Gulf coast residents may still be suffering economic losses as a result of the spill for a number of years.

“How can BP or anyone a year from now place a fair value on future economic losses when no one knows whether the fish stocks will recover in one year or ten?” Itkin said. “It’s a point we understand and seek to address as we deal with oil spill claims issues on a daily basis. It is easy to lose sight of the fact that the Gulf Coast’s economic losses don’t stop when the oil stops flowing.”

BP Oil Spill Rescue: Online Suggestion Platform Seeks New Approaches

Portland, OR (Vocus) June 3, 2010

ARM Insight, Inc, an Oregon technology company, launched a website today to capture suggestions of the world’s best and brightest on innovative solutions for stopping BP’s oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. BP has reportedly received 10,000 phone calls and 60,000 emails offering solutions since last month’s disaster. The website is intended as a vehicle to organize these ideas, through the use of “crowdsourcing”, to encourage new thinking and promote collaboration among interested people around the world. Crowdsourcing refers to the concept that the wisdom of crowds, if harnessed, can usually provide the best answer (think the “Audience” lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”).

“We believe the answer to capping the oil spill may emerge through the collaborative efforts of disparate individuals worldwide, from every-day tinkerers to professional scientists in the farthest corners of the world,” said Dan Afrasiabi, president of Portland’s ARM Insight. “Technology allows us to invite people with different talents and ideas to jump in to this collaborative forum where every idea is welcomed.”

The site http://www.whatshouldBPdo.com has an innovative strategy itself. Idea contributors, whether an innovative farmer in Omaha, an engineering visionary in Russia, or perhaps a high school physics teacher in Brazil, can post their ideas and all site visitors can vote for their favorite idea. The most innovative ideas then quickly rise to the top of the list because they have the most votes. Dan Afrasiabi hopes BP experts will monitor the website for the best and most innovative ideas.

“We believe that complex problems require revolutionary solutions” said Afrasiabi. “Few problems require the urgent cooperation of global brain-power in the way the oil spill crisis does. Our hope is to quickly uncover the solution to this problem and at the same time produce a wealth of ideas to prevent or minimize the effect of future accidents which are likely to occur as the global hunt for deep water sources of energy continues.”

Afrasiabi invites everyone with an idea to submit a proposal or who simply wants to vote on the ideas presented by others to visit http://www.whatshouldBPdo.com.

The Day-Glo Geckos of Gaucin

bp days offer

Article by VacationRentalPeople

As Costa Del Sol villas boom as an industry, many Brits return to Spain as an old favourite destination. Yet for those who fancy a quick break from the Coast and the people, Gaucin is only a short drive away in distance, but a million miles away in culture.

Around 300 to 400 British expatriates have found a home in Gaucin, among them BP boss Tony Hayward who has recently bought a house slightly out of town, though this is no boasting point for the locals. In fact the town teeters on the edge of Southern Spain’s ‘oil corner’, with many other oil industry millionaires setting up camp here.

While Gaucin continues to attract the rich and sometimes glamorous, it is rumoured the Princess Diana once stayed here, it is not so much a town about money, in fact it is more interested in culture and art.

A varied mix of Europeans, many artists, photographers or writers, have mingled in here amongst the sophisticated Spaniard residents, aiding the town’s reputation as fertile creative ground.

Collectively the town works together, almost as if an artistic ensemble, and every year all studios are opened, in a mass exhibition. Yet all year round the town is covered with bright vibrant art.

In any stroll down the street you are greeted by day-glo street art as part of the many art initiatives of the town. Over 400 technicolour geckos adorn the whitewashed wall here, on nearly every street corner a luminous lizard awaits.

A new initiative sees Gaucin’s creative residents now displaying papier-mache cats, again, in bright and distinctive colours.

With this creativity bursting out at you on every sidewalk, Gaucin, though only a few miles away few a miles away from the Costa Del Sol, couldn’t feel much more removed.

While it doesn’t have the attractions of the coast, Gaucin feels like real Spain. Untainted by Supermarket chains, the produce here is local, sold by local people, don’t expect to go to the shop and find any of the British tabloids.

Instead here you have streets swept with playful culture, and many fine restaurants and eateries, along with some fun and busy bars.

For those wishing to take in the beautiful sun drenched sights that seem so rare in Southern Spain, Gaucin is a perfect location. Strolling through the town you can take in all the beauty of the local architecture, but eventually you will be lead to the Castillo de Aguilo, climb to the top for a rich lookout point offering brilliant vies of the town and the country, as far as the eye can travel, the rock of Gibraltar prominent in the distance.

Yet even better, take a quick saunter out of town, there’s no denying the beauty of the countryside here, views abundantly in supply.

Gaucin makes an excellent day trip and for some a welcome break from the busy coast. Yet there is so much history here that it really makes a great destination for a short term Gaucin villa rental.
